DIY mockingjay bracelet

Description

Just a quick step by step-thingy on how I did my hunger games bracelet.

- First drew the mockingjay on a piece of paper with the help of a picture on my computer. Tried to make it a nice size for my hand too. I cut out the picture and placed it on a rolled out piece of polymer clay (Fimo) . It should not be very thick 'cause I'll add some details on top of it later.
- Once it's cut out you can start adding details on wings, body and tail. Nothing added to the head yet, 'cause we need our arrow in the beek first.
- I made the arrow seperatly at first. Using iron wire for the arrow itself. I "glued" the arrowhead and the feathers using polymer clay mixed with babyoil. Baked it in the oven for abou 3min.
- Now we can add the arrow to the birds beek and then shape a head to go on top. I added the same clay-babyoil mixture to the beek to make it more sturdy and make the arrow stay. I also added it to any parts where the arrow was in contact with the bird, like on the tail and in front of the head.
- Now into the oven! I baked the whole thing for about 10min first, then added the eyepin along with some more clay to the back to make it a bit thicker. After this back into the oven for 30min.
- Best part, painting! I started by spraying it with a couple of layers of gold spraypaint. A base for the paint would be a good idea to make it stick better, I didn't have any and my paint did try to peel off at some places, I fixed it tho'. Meow :3  Lastly the antique look; I mixed brown and black acrylic paint for a very very dark brown shade. I also mixed in a bit of water just to make it less thick. After this I just painted over the whole bird and before it dried, wiped off most of it, just leaving the paint in the crevises. I did this 3 times to get the amount of darkness I wanted. This trick is from Kustom Fu's mockingjay video. Check out the tutorial on making the mockingjay too, it's fantastic!
- Lastly I added the chains the way I wanted them. I happened to find this cool bronze colored chains which worked amazing with the color of the charm.

So there you go! I'm very happy with this, especially because this was basically my very first polymer clay charm ever.
